DIABETIC MANAGEMENT AND NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION

Diabetic Management and Nutritional Education

At QualiCare, we believe that diabetic management is imperative to patients with diabetes. If you or a loved one have type 2 diabetes, it is essential you have well-balanced nutritious meals. You can seek the help of a dietitian, to begin with, but it is essential you educate yourself about the foods you should and should not eat and in what quantities.

A well-balanced diet consisting of protein, dairy, whole grains, fiber, fruits, vegetables and some unsaturated fats. If you educate yourself with the diabetes food pyramid, you will be well on your way to getting adequate nutrition.

You need at least six “serves of grains, beans, and starchy vegetables per day. For example, a slice of bread is a serve. A small potato is a serve. So if you have a sandwich with two slices of bread, which gives you two slice right there. Choose healthy bread instead of white bread. Whole grain, wholemeal or rye bread is healthier options.

The next group is 3-5 serves of vegetables each day. One cup of raw or a half-cup of cooked vegetables is a single serve. You can easily get small bags of carrots and celery at work or school for snacks. Easy to eat and very healthy. There are plenty of vegetables to choose from so it’s impossible to get bored.

Elderly Health Care

You should have 2-4 serves of fruit each day. Again, this is an easy part. A small apple or orange is a serve. Again, fruit is easy for snacks to take to work or school.

Meat and “other” is 2-3 serving per day. The category “other” includes foods such as:

  • Tofu,
  • Eggs,
  • Peanut butter, etc. as well as any
  • Meat, fish, and poultry.

Be sure to cook your meat in a healthy manner and trim off the fat.

Milk is 2 to 3 serves per day. A glass of milk is a must. You can use a low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese or yogurt choose here, so do make smart decisions in the vital nutrients without the extra calories, sugars and fats.

Trouble is sweets, alcohol, and fats. Your “serving” of these should be limited to as little as possible. This does not mean you have to totally avoid, but consider items from this section as “treats” rather than things you need every day.

It takes the time to educate yourself on how to eat a balanced and healthy diet. Be careful and read all food labels, make notes if you must. Eventually, you have to have a reasonable knowledge and does not require to read labels, except for items that you do not often buy.

If you find that you do not receive enough nutrients from your food, there are supplements that you can take, but it is better to have the benefits of eating. It will also save you money that can be spent on more healthy food options. Be smart.

Make wise decisions and you can manage your type 2 diabetes while still maintaining a great lifestyle.

Type 2 diabetes is no longer a condition you must just live with. The key is knowledge about the health … this is the basis for personal health maintenance. Type 2 diabetes do not need to slow and inevitable worse. You can take control of the disease and take your health back.

Home Health Care Agency

It is our greatest mission to help the elderly and disabled patients reach and sustain their independence and self-reliance. As a professional institute and sighting the recent focus of the United States government about reducing spending on healthcare, hospital readmissions are a costly proposition. The integration of hospital and ambulatory care is the key to reducing readmissions. Formal or strong informal relations between hospitals and the local primary care providers, such as Home Healthcare Agencies, will improve outcomes for patients and reduces the costs associated with health care spending.

Qualicare Home Health Care offers the unique ability to provide health care treatments which were previously only available in a hospital or doctor’s office to receive in the comfort of your home. Qualicare home health care offers a long list of services that are often less expensive, more convenient than and as effective as the care that you would receive in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. In general, the goal of home health care is to provide treatment for an illness or injury. For our patients, we are committed to improving patient access to much-needed health care. In doing so, we focus on minimizing the devastating personal consequences of illness, accident or disability in our patients and their families.
